Wash a GORE-TEX jacket using its garment label and the care instructions for the exact GORE-TEX construction. The brand name alone is not enough to choose every step. Special constructions can have different drying and surface-treatment requirements.
Identify the jacket before washing
Find the style number, material designation and label. Inspect seams, tape, closures and abrasion. Empty pockets and prepare the garment as directed. Keep any removable components separate when their instructions require it.
Use the recommended detergent and process. Do not substitute a stronger cleaner because a collar looks heavily soiled. Ask the garment maker about stubborn stains or unusual trim rather than generalizing from another shell.
Follow drying instructions accurately
Some systems allow a specified heat step for their outer treatment, while exceptions exist. Read the current guidance for your jacket before using a dryer or iron. Do not treat all GORE-TEX products as one care category.
After drying, assess the surface and inspect known damaged areas. If the outer fabric wets out, determine whether compatible treatment is required. If water enters through a structural defect, consider repair. These observations should not be combined into one unexplained verdict.
What evidence should you keep?
Retain the label photograph, products used and date of care. This makes troubleshooting and team handover easier. A maintenance record does not prove waterproof performance, but it helps the maker understand what happened if the garment later develops a problem.
