How to Wash a Bomber Jacket: Check Shell, Ribbing and Lining

Wash a bomber jacket according to its materials and label. Bomber describes the style, often including a shorter body and ribbed edges. It does not tell you whether the jacket is leather, satin-like textile, wool or a washable synthetic.

Inspect the components

Read the shell, lining and fill information. Check cuffs and waistband for worn elastic or stretched ribbing. Inspect zips, embroidery and decorative patches. If the style combines different materials, confirm which care process is safe for the finished garment.

Empty pockets and prepare closures as directed. Treat stains only with compatible methods. A small oily collar mark is not a reason to immerse a leather bomber or use a strong cleaner on a delicate textile.

Follow the permitted drying process

Support the jacket while wet and avoid pulling the ribbed edges. Use only the drying method specified by the label. Check cuffs and waistband for trapped moisture before storage.

When dry, inspect the ribbing's recovery, lining position and zipper alignment. Do not attempt to reshape a shrunken or distorted jacket using repeated hot washes. A repairer can assess whether worn ribbing or damaged hardware can be replaced.

Can a team use one bomber-care routine?

Only when the jackets truly share the same construction and decoration. Keep the exact style reference and care instructions with the order. A uniform silhouette does not guarantee uniform material behavior, especially when different colorways or custom patches are involved.
