Wash a polyester jacket according to the garment label. Polyester may describe only the shell, while insulation, coating, lining and trim impose separate limits. Similar-looking jackets can therefore need different processes.
Read every material description
Check shell, lining and fill separately. Look for bonded panels, faux leather trim, reflective elements and removable parts. Inspect loose seams or peeling finishes before cleaning. Empty pockets and secure hardware as directed.
Use the authorized process and detergent. Do not infer a high-heat tolerance from the fiber name. A printed or coated surface may be the part most sensitive to treatment. Test compatible spot care and wait for the test to dry.
Inspect drying and shape
Follow the drying instructions and confirm thick areas are dry before storage. Check whether insulation remains even, the lining hangs naturally and the closure stays aligned. A warm shell surface is not evidence that all internal layers are dry.
If the garment feels different afterward, compare it with photographs or measurements. Identify whether the issue is residue, heat damage, fill movement or fit change. These problems require different responses.
What helps with uniform care?
Keep the exact style's label and an accessible care sheet. Avoid writing machine-washable solely from a polyester composition claim. For decorated uniforms, approve the care method after the logo or print is added, because customization can change the limits of the original garment.
